  1. Bury, West Sussex

Drive down the lovely A272 toward Petworth in Sussex, take a left to Fittleworth following the road into woodlands and ascend up a steep narrow lane under a dense canopy of trees and you'll eventually come to a remote nature reserve where you can park your car, let your dog out of the boot and lose yourself in a vast wood. Fantastic views over the South Downs here! This really is a walk to be enjoyed in winter when your view to the Downs is unobscured by leaves. Fantastic for you and the dog!

  2. Billingshurst - Sussex

I love walking our retired greyhound Jas around the farm behind where we live. I drop my daughter off at playgroup and cut home across the fields. It is lovely on a winters morning when there the mist is clearing and the ground is still frosty. The dog runs round and round usually at 40mph! Every now and then she goes into the woods after rabbits. It only takes me about 20 minutes if I go straight home but it always leaves me feeling totally relaxed and ready for the day ahead!!

  3. New Forest

Turn off the A31 towards Burley and on your left within a few hundred metres is a slip road to a car park. Once parked you will see ahead of you a semi wooded area, which will open out into typical New Forest vegetation. The views are wonderful and as well as New Forset ponies you may well see deer and rabbits. Dogs love the freedom of safe roaming for miles around. Once done hop back into your car, continue on the road to the A35, stop at the Station Tea Rooms for the best tea in Hampshire.

  4. Formby

Freshfields NT park is great for the dogs - forest areas, big san d dunes and the sea make for a lot of waggy tails

  5. Littlehampton beach

Our dog loves running along the beach, chasing the gulls away and daring herself to go into the sea (but not quite managing it). At this time of year (winter) the beach is very quite and we don't have to worry about her piddling on children's sand castles, which is a little embarrasing and rather unpleasant so we won't be letting her off the lead in summer!

  8. Cardinham woods, near Bodmin, Cornwall

    Image uploaded by M Pipe

Dogs are free to run off lead in a woods, offering amazing views over the valleys, with a variety of different walks depending on your fitness level and amount of time available. You are supplied with a leaflet allowing you to map your way through the woods and see the distance you will be walking. The woods runs along beside a river. There are facilities by the car park for BBQing on warm summer's nights and a cafe serving lunches, snacks and cakes if you want a little less effort!
