One of my favourite places locally to go is Kenwood House in North London. The house is free to visit, but we also love walking in the grounds, which provide great views of London. In summer we normally take a picnic. When its cold we will either buy a coffee from the cafe by the House and drink it as we walk to keep us warm, or we will go to the Spaniards Inn which is approx 10 minutes walk away for a nice glass of wine. A very cheap afternoon out.

If you want to avoid the fees for Land's End attractions, just stroll off to the left (south) along the coast - you'll have it to almost to yourself and the coastline is beautiful!

Since I live in London, I like being able to hop on a train from Paddington up to Princes Risborough, then walk the clearly marked pathway for 6 miles to Wendover where I can catch a train back to London. The Chilterns are a beautiful area of South East England. It's a perfect day out, the Chilterns railway is really cheap and there are great pubs in Wendover where you can buy yourself a congratulatory pint for having completed the walk!

The original poo sitcks bridge is a short walk from the village of Harfield in West Sussex. Great fun for kids and people who pretend to be kids too! The village has a couple of great pubs, tea rooms, and the Winnie the Poo shop "Poo Corner"

All over the country there are weekends organised, mainly at cost to get away from everything and not be yourself but a Dungeons and Dragons type character for which you pay about £50 all in. BUT if you go as a member of crew to facilitate the event as part of the plotline, being directed as several characters - IT'S ALL FREE- and great. I am taking 25 scool students and others from 14 - 26 to one in April
