First class guide to Cornwall
Tracy Smith take us to Cornwall, home to one of the oldest post offices in Britain and also the most environmentally sound destination in the UK.
Tracy was born in Boscastle and been a postman in Cornwall for 11 years. He started his career with Royal Mail in Tintagel which holds one of the oldest post offices in the country. In 1872 it was closed as a functioning post office and turned into a museum. Tintagel is famous for being the home of King Arthur and the joke amongst locals is he still lives in town and buys his stamps from that very post office.
Tracy loves his hometown, not just for its World Heritage Sites and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (not to mention some of the best weather in Britain), but also because it's one of the most environmentally sound areas in the country. He lives by the motto you need to be seen to be green, and on your visit to Cornwall you'll see it really lives up to this motto.
First class guide to Yorkshire
Postman Barry Hutchinson takes us on a scenic tour of Yorkshire visiting Whitby Abbey which inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula and the set of TV series Heartbeat.
Barry has lived in Whitby for 35 years and worked for Royal Mail for over 10. He's lucky enough to see some of Yorkshire's most stunning locations and sights every day as he delivers our post. Whitby Abbey is one of the major sights on his route and is the place that inspired Bram Stoker to write his famous vampire novel, Dracula.
One of Barry's favourite places is Goathland Railway Station which was used to film the famous wizard Harry Potter arriving on the Hogwarts Express from Kings Cross. Lots of local school children from Whitby featured in this scene from the movie and Barry's nephew was one of them!
His route also covers the surrounding Goathland area including Aidensfield, a local town made famous as the set of popular TV series, Heartbeat. Barry often visits the set and has even appeared as an extra in the show. Why don't you come and visit too?
First class guide to London
Post woman Nancy Doyle shows us some of London's best kept secrets such as Postman's Park near St Paul's and the capital's lesser known markets.
Nancy has worked for Royal Mail for over 19 years delivering post around central London. Postman's Park just behind St Paul's Cathedral is one of her favourite hideaways. This secret garden was the idea of the painter the George Frederick Watts who wanted to celebrate the heroism of people who are often forgotten. A wall in the park has 47 hand-painted tiles paying tribute to everyday people who sacrificed their lives helping others.
Old Billingsgate Fish Market is another of Nancy's favourite places offering some of the best views in the city as well as a river walk all the way to Greenwich. Leadenhall Market is also on her route and she loves the story of Tom the Goose. Apparently, in the 19th Century, market traders had two days to sort 34,000 geese. They managed it, but not without one escaping. Locals took pity on the goose and named him Tom. Tom went on to live for 38 years and is said to be buried in the market centre.
