Discover wildlife in England - South East England

South East England

As a stage for the wildlife of the region, the South East of England has many designated areas of “Outstanding Natural Beauty” and two large National Parks. There are plenty of opportunities to see exotic animals close-up, for there are several zoos, such as Drusilla’s (www.drusillas.co.uk/) in East Sussex, Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent or Marwell Zoo (www.marwell.org.uk/), near Winchester and similar attractions.

Where to go and what to see

Llama Trekking (www.surrey-hills-llamas.co.uk/)
Llamas are friendly, intelligent and inquisitive with an incredibly calming influence. Have your own llama for a day, walking in the tranquil Surrey Hills with its unique flora, fauna and history.

New Forest
You can still see the ponies eating by the roadside, pigs foraging for beechnuts, and donkeys ambling along the streets.

Isle of Wight
The island boasts 60 miles of spectacular coastline, with picturesque coves and beautiful bays of golden sand with safe bathing.

The National Trust (www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/)
In addition to many properties and gardens, the National Trusts cares for large parts of the coast and countryside in south east England, all of which is accessible to the public.
