Yorkshire Wolds Way

Yorkshire Wolds Way

Broad, green horizons all around you – and above, a sweeping canopy of sky.  The Yorkshire Wolds Way frees the senses as it takes you through charming and tranquil landscapes on a 79 mile (127km) journey of pastoral pleasure.  From the banks of the mighty Humber estuary, along wooded slopes and through serene dry valleys, the walk climbs gently onto the airy tops of the rolling hills where on a clear day "you can see forever". Descending from the northern escarpment the final section of the Way finishes on the dramatic headland of Filey Brigg.

The soft greens of the landscape, often peppered with bright red poppies set against a deep blue sky instil a feeling of peace and freedom; the villages, rich in history, offer welcome breaks for refreshment and relaxation and; the quiet sounds of nature permeate the clear air. It would be a crime to rush this trail.

Highlights

Thixendale: One of the many delightful Yorkshire Wolds villages on route and especially cherished by those in search of refreshment (there’s an excellent pub).

Wharram Percy: Another unexpected delight… a medieval village which has stood deserted, but preserved for over five centuries.

Humber Bridge: Man made certainly, but you’ll be happy to indulge a brief break from nature’s wonders to gaze with awe on this spectacular structure.
