The River Parrett Trail in Somerset
Length: 50 miles
Average time to complete: 3 to 4 days
The River Parrett Trail follows the course of the river from its source high in the Dorset hills through the tranquil Somerset countryside opening out at its mouth in the Bristol Channel.
It is a fairly easy walk as it is primarily flat with just a few climbs to take in the spectacular views. It should be enjoyed slowly over several days giving yourself time to stop and enjoy the many attractions en route; Ham Hill - the largest Iron Age hill fort in Britain, Westonzoyland - home of the last battle fought on British soil, the Somerset Distillery - where you can taste the wonderful Cider Brandy, or the beautiful cottage gardens at East Lambrook.
Time is also needed to appreciate the award winning tea rooms and friendly, country pubs along the route where you can relax in front of an open fire and enjoy top quality, local food and drink.
