Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727)
Grantham-born Newton made revolutionary advances in mathematics, optics, physics and astronomy. His most famous discovery came after making the link between how planets circle the sun and objects fall to the earth - Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation - although contrary to popular myth, the idea did not come in flash of inspiration as an apple fell from a tree!
