Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723)

Sir Christopher Wren

Born in Wiltshire, this great architect spent his early years in Windsor, Berkshire, but you can see wonderful testaments to his skill in other parts of the country.  After the Great Fire of London in 1666 he was responsible not only for rebuilding St Paul’s Cathedral, but more than 50 other City churches.

St. Paul's Cathedral, London
Pause outside to admire Wren's masterpiece before stepping inside to gaze in awe at the great pillars, arches and monuments. Or head down into the crypt to discover effigies that pre-date the cathedral.
