Reginald Mitchell

The Spitfire aeroplane was first tested in 1936 and played a vital role in World War II.  It was designed by Mitchell, an aeronautical genius who was born in Stoke-on-Trent but who spent his working life with Supermarine Aviation in Southampton where the plane was developed.
