Abraham Darby III (1750-1791)
In 1779 Abraham III completed the world's first cast-iron bridge, over the River Severn near Coalbrookdale. All the bridge's major parts were put together in three months without a single accident and when complete, artists, writers and engineers came from all over the world to marvel at the unique design.
