Farm at Watendlath

Farm at Watendlath

Dora Carrington, 1921

The little hamlet of Watendlath, near Keswick in the Lake District, sits high between the Borrowdale and Thirlmere valleys at 847 feet above sea level. Watendlath beck is the source for the Lodore Falls, which have attracted visitors since Victorian times.  The Borrowdale area, including Watendlath, is now owned and cared for by the National Trust. This scene was painted by the newly-wed artist during a summer holiday in the area with her husband and their friends.
