This bold, abstract composition is possibly a scene of Cromer beach, often referred to as the 'Gem of the Norfolk Coast'. John Sell Cotman was a leading figure of the Norwich School of artists. Best known as a watercolourist, he took up oils after moving back to Norwich from London in 1806.
