Farm shops

A basket of fresh vegetables

What better way to get a true taste of England than by paying a visit to one of England's many farm shops. Today, there are over 3,000 farm shops scattered throughout England's beautiful countryside. Each of them give the visitor a delightful opportunity to access local, fresh and seasonal food and drink.

Farm shops can range from the very simple to the very sophisticated. Some of the best known farm shops can be found at Chatsworth (www.chatsworth.org), home to Her Grace the Duchess of Devonshire, and in Windsor, just outside London.

For more information about other farm shops throughout England, see the Farm Retail Association (www.farmshopping.com) website. If you'd like to try some farmhouse cooking yourself click here

You might also want to consider a stay on a farm. Whether it’s sharing a traditional farmhouse with a farming family, self-catering with friends and family in a converted barn or cottage, or camping on farm land, the experience can be great fun. For more information see the Farm Stay UK (www.cartwheel.org.uk/holiday-wildlife.asp) website.
