The Chesterfield
Smartly located in the heart of Mayfair, this hotel was once the home of the Earl of Chesterfield, and it still retains the charm and character of a bygone era. Its clublike atmosphere is emphasised by wood panelling, oil paintings and leather armchairs, and in these august surroundings, the afternoon tea is perfectly at home. The more adventurous may go for the Champagne Tea, a snip at £19.50, while traditionalists will be drawn to the Devonshire Cream Tea, or the Chesterfield, a mini-banquet of sand-wiches, scones with clotted cream, pastries and éclairs, and various cakes. The choice of special teas includes Darjeeling and Ceylon.
