Sussex Beef in Beer
Ingredients
700g lean local braising steak, cut in cubes of 2.5cm
1 onion, peeled and chopped
1 clove of garlic, finely chopped
2 carrots, chopped
1 tbsp flour
275ml locally brewed beer
275ml water
1 beef stock cube
110 g button mushrooms
2 fresh peeled and chopped tomatoes
salt, black pepper oil
Intro and Method
Serves 3-4
Heat some oil in a large saucepan, add the beef and brown. Add the onion, garlic and carrots and sauté for 5 minutes. Stir in the flour. Add the beer, water and stock and bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 ½ hours. Add the mushrooms and tomatoes and simmer for another 30 minutes. Season to taste.
