Mridula Baljekar has written many Indian cookery books; then she confided that she wanted to run a restaurant. She opened her new venture in Windsor in 2001. The restaurant is not hard to find but you might take a bit of time finding a car space. The restaurant menu is a combination of Mridula’s own recipes and the chefs, and it is gourmet cooking. You can watch the chefs through a glass-fronted kitchen cooking up delights including Egg Koftas with Date. Spice Route also offers an express two-course lunch but it can feel like a six-course meal! Watch out for a non-tandoor dish – Kashmiri Lamb Curry (Rogan Josh) – tender pieces of lamb slow cooked with the captivating flavours of a special blend of spices.
