The Best Restaurant Award is, for the first time ever, outside central London. Owned by Sanjay Anand; his whole team have a positive can-do attitude which simply cannot be bettered. The restaurant seats 94 on two floors: the upper floor, second bar being reached by a large spiral staircase at the front of the restaurant. You will often find Sanjay in the restaurant, welcoming diners as old friends  - you will know which one he is, because of his very distinctive laugh. Today, and dozens of awards later, there are as many non-Asians as Asians enjoying the food and ambience here. In 1999, the homely venue was totally revamped at considerable expense. The new-look it has to be said is better than the last.

With Indian-Hyatt-trained chefs from Delhi you will find Anand signature dishes, typically Punjabi with that wonderful Kenyan Asian twist. More importantly they have brought a whole new range of dishes to the menu including: Butter, Methi, and Jeera Chicken, all £8 for half a chicken on the bone, are an absolute must when dining here. Nyamah Choma – spring lamb ribs seasoned and marinated and cooked in tandoor. Machuzi Kuk - spring roaster – on the bone, in a thin curry, medium-spiced, a Kenyan speciality – three-person portion £7; and Sanjay’s favourite, Boozi Bafu – spring lamb chops from Kenya’s Boozi, cooked authentically in a spicy medium sauce, three person portion £16. We could go on but why not go there and try the food!
