Abdul Ahad had a dream to construct a fantastic new restaurant in white marble – a Taj Mahal complete with dome. We all have dreams. Few of us realise them. He spent years planning and once he decided to proceed he took a financial risk the like of which is no dream – nightmare rather. In the end it cost a cool £4m. When you enter Abdul’s restaurant there is a sign on the door that politely requests smart dress, no trainers or jeans. A grand, well-stocked bar dominates the room. The dining area has been divided into three spaces with the main area encircled by turquoise screens, which in turn encircle a lavish, four-faced, three-tiered waterfall, made from beaten copper cubes. Ahad has a huge following of sophisticated diners who love his food, ambiance and service. Notable dishes include: Dum Ki Nalli, ‘lamb shanks on the bone smothered in a rich spice sauce’; Lobster Garlic Bhuna, ‘grilled lobster tail with garlic-flavoured onion-tomato masala, served with rice’. We recommend everyone to visit it!
