The Bombay Brasserie pioneered Indian regional cooking in Britain, in fact the world. It hadn’t even been done in India in 1982. It is now the 50-strong Taj Hotel Group’s flagship venue. It is an icon. Despite seating a considerable 265, you are advised to book. It’s nothing to see Madonna on one table and Hugh Grant on another, and the odd politician on a third. The Executive Chef draws his culinary inspirations from Maharashtra. He is also an authority on tandoor cooking, which uses clay ovens fired with charcoal. Some examples of his culinary skills can be tasted by trying Samosa Chaat, Aloo Tuk, Chicken Tikka Makhani and Lamb chops with ginger and green herbs. Daily lunch buffet: £16.95.
