Chef Atul Kochar has created a Michelin-starred restaurant in the heart of London. Benares is named after India’s holiest city (formerly Varanassi). Upstairs is an architect-designed bar (serving snacks), with three private dining rooms off. The main dining room has polished grey limestone flooring, textured and sculpted white walls, and is interspersed with artefacts. Watch out for the homemade chutneys and the Nalli Gosht – lamb shank with coriander and red chillies, delivered in its own beaten copper pot.
