La Fromagerie is run by the indefatigable Patricia Michelson. A veritable treasure trove, you could spend hours just finding out what is in stock. The air-conditioned cheese rooms double up as maturing rooms and the choice is overwhelming.
British cheeses are carefully chosen and include such treasures as Innes Button, both Montgomery’s and Keen’s unpasteurised Cheddar and various blues including the goats’ milk Harbourne Blue and, of course, Stilton. Look out too for the Wallace & Grommit’s favourite Stinking Bishop and an array of territorial cheeses such as Cheshire or Caerphilly.
With a branch in Moxon Street, just off Marylebone High Street, you’ll also find goodies to go with cheese as well as delicatessen goods, wine and seasonal, carefully sourced fruit and vegetables. Both branches now have Tasting Cafes – a perfect stop-off for a platter of cheese.
