The Black Bull is a pub that treasures its traditions and is situated on the cobbled High Street.  The Black Bull used to have three separate rooms but is now all contained in one, being served by two bars, while the ceiling and wall timbers are from the original building and are 300 years old.

It is thought that The Black Bull derives its name from the practice of bull baiting, around 1822. It appears in the trade directories as early as 1834 when John Phillips was the landlord of the Black Bull in Front Street, Yarm.

A coxed four rowing team named a racing boat after the Black Bull in Yarm in 1959.  The Tees Rowing Club raced it to great effect. More recently, in 1990, one of the Black Bull’s customers, Bob Tillston, secretly climbed up the inside of the pub’s 16ft chimney.  He shocked and surprised the other customers, as he emerged covered in soot!  An engraved brass plate within the pub recalls the event.

Ales and Malts

The Black Bull offers traditional range of ales, including Bass cask ale and a selection of red and white wines.

Food

The Black Bull serves freshly prepared traditional dishes, including Gammon Steak and Chicken, Mushroom & Stuffing Pie.  The menu also contains the delicious Black Bull’s Steak Pie, which is always a popular choice.
