Whitby named top seaside resort
The seaside town of Whitby is probably best known for its literary association with Bram Stoker, author of Dracula. Not only is part of the story set in Whitby but Stoker actually wrote the book while staying in the town.
However, it seems that this isn’t the only reason to pay a visit to Whitby as consumer magazine Holiday Which? has just voted it Britain’s top seaside resort.
The charming combination of its attractive bays, sandy beaches and quaint cobble-stoned streets mean that Whitby attracts over half a million visitors a year, and around one fifth of the local population are employed in the tourism industry.
