Canterbury Cathedral was founded in AD597 and is the Mother Church of the Anglican Communion. It has a perpendicular nave, 12th century Gothic quire, notable stained glass windows and a Romanesque crypt. The Cathedral is the site of the Archbishop Thomas Becket's martyrdom in AD1170, whose shrine became one of the most visited by pilgrims in the Middle Ages, travelling the Pilgrims' Way from London and Winchester. There are also conference facilities and accommodation for 50 at the Cathedral's International Study Centre.
