England's cities are teeming with ghosts… scary characters have been lurking around dark corners and old buildings… frightening unsuspecting pedestrians for years.

Live dangerously and visit one of our haunted cities this Halloween. Or are you too frightened?

Exeter

Learn why Exeter is reputed to be one of England’s most haunted cities on the popular Ghosts and Legends Red Coat Guided Tour. Hear tales of a ghostly nun who heralds death, headless horses pulling a hearse, the spooky apparition of a murdered lady and many more! Operating every Tuesday and Thursday during summer at 7.00pm and every Tuesday during winter at 7.00pm, these FREE guided walking tours are suitable for all ages, last 90 minutes and allow visitors to travel back in time and discover Exeter’s ghostly past.

Tours begin outside the Royal Clarence Hotel in Cathedral Yard and no booking is required. Tours contain steps, slopes or rough ground. Only guide dogs are permitted to accompany owners on the tours. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For more information visit Exeter City Council's website

London

Visit a graveyard where a gruesome event committed in the 1830's left an indelible stain upon the ethereal plane. See a dungeon where you'll sense countless dreadful happenings have occurred. Hear the story of the haunted elevator at London’s oldest hospital and be led through the ancient burial ground where the she wolf's restless wraith chills the blood of many a late night wanderer. Shiver in the silent graveyard where a lone monk keeps his weary vigil amongst the crumbling, weatherworn tombstones and stand on the very spot where Sir William Wallace – Braveheart himself – was executed. York

Travel back in time, cross the centuries and experience the stories that make up the hidden and blood chilling history of York's ghostly tradition. Traditional tales, Victorian tragedies and true accounts of modern day ghostly phenomena interweave with dark figures that lurk in the shadows to create a spine tingling experience that will haunt you forever. Brighton and Hove

Take a twilight tour of Preston Manor in Brighton and Hove. Calm your nerves with a glass of wine and some ghostly nibbles! Dabble in high society and other worlds as you find out about the history of the Manor and the colourful past of the influential Stanford family. Take the Grand Tour of the house to explore tales of hauntings, the influential séance in 1896, encounters of aristocratic visitors in the Blue Guest Room, and the chill hand of the spirits on the servants' staircase.  The tour also includes the mediaeval St Peter's Church adjoining the manor gardens. Windsor

Windsor Castle has more than its fair share of ghosts including King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, Anne Boleyn and Herne the Hunter to name but a few. Sheffield

Twice-weekly around the city centre – on Monday and Wednesday evenings throughout the year (except between Christmas and New Year), starting at 7.30pm – Mr. P Dreadfull presents tales of history and haunting around Sheffield.
