Norwich city secrets

Cramped and compact the streets may be, but you’re never more than minutes from an oasis of green.

The Plantation Garden
Hidden in the grounds of the Beeches Hotel is a genuine Victorian folly, a Grade II-listed garden with a ‘gothic’ fountain, sundry ‘ruins’, a rustic summerhouse and a ‘medieval’ terrace plus woodland walkways and decorative borders, all crammed into a former quarry.

Waterloo Park
Serious gardeners can see how the council has planted its herbaceous borders – the longest in the country.

Mousehold Heath
Spot woodpeckers and other wildlife in this 122-acre woodland nature reserve within the city walls. Great views, too.
