About Manchester
A cocktail among the restored Victorian warehouses on a still summer’s night in the gay village. A lazy afternoon strolling through the galleries, boutiques and rejuvenated Victorian streets of the funky Northern Quarter. Most of all, the Manchester approach to life – friendly, down to earth, always with a wry eye for the humour of the situation.
Manchester is special. There’s always something new. For the city that was the capital of the first industrial revolution and the place they built the first computer, keeping up with the trends isn’t exactly rocket science. It’s just business as usual.
Taste, see, buy or merely enjoy the charms of Manchester’s villages. Dim Sum in the world’s third biggest Chinatown.
And then there’s the biggest village of the lot.
Pay homage to the same sex parent of it all: the gay village, centred on Canal Street, Manchester’s main gay and lesbian strip. See what a little fairydust can do to a great city. Bar hop in the footsteps of Vince, Nathan and Stuart from the original "Queer as Folk". Chill out by the waterside. Is there a gayer city block anywhere in Europe? We don’t think so.
In the mood for music? Catch a concert by the famous Hallé Orchestra at the glittering new Bridgewater Hall. Take in a live gig, and wonder if the band you’re listening to will follow in the footsteps of the Bee Gees, The Smiths or Take That!
Maybe your mood is for dancing. Manchester is a clubbing legend, with everything from gay R & B night, Homiesexual to pure disco cheese at Cruz 101.
A short break in Manchester? As queer as you’d expect. As exciting as you can imagine.
