Mellow honey-coloured stone and cobbled streets belie Lincoln’s modern approach to city life.
There can be few cities that can match Lincoln’s neat juxtaposition of ancient and modern. True, your first view of the city will be dominated by its glorious, honey-coloured cathedral perched high on a limestone escarpment – and if it’s cobbled streets, tranquillity and a good dose of Roman and Medieval history you’re after, head straight up the hill towards it.
But if you’re after something a little more lively, then ‘downhill’, as the locals call it, is the place for you.

Claire Gill, Brown’s Pie Shop: "I love the fact that the olde English part of town and the modern part are totally separate, so you can decide where to go depending on your mood"
Jeremy Webster, The Collection: "It’s a very personal, compact place full of hidden gems – and walkable, too"
