About Leicester

Any visit to Leicester will be enhanced by a walking tour to see some of the RIBA award-winning buildings that the city has to offer. The top three would be - firstly, the acclaimed Leicester Creative Business Depot, now a vibrant centre for artists and creative businesses. Though previously a bus depot, it has given a real kick-start to the regeneration of St George's cultural quarter. Designed with flair and imagination, the building incorporates elements of the old architecture within state-of-the-art design. Then, just outside the city centre is the Queen's Building at de Montfort University, one of Europe's largest naturally lit and ventilated buildings, housing the Institute for Environmentally Sustainable Design - now a world authority in green building design. Finally, on the edge of the city but still within easy reach of the centre is the Richard Attenborough Centre for Disability and the Arts, part of the University of Leicester, an Arts Centre with a difference with complete physical access being the key to the Centre's facilities.

Wherever possible we have tried to choose schemes that are available for the general public to appreciate, that are near to one another, and can be enjoyed on foot. There are other RIBA award-winning buildings at this destination.

www.architecture.com has details of all nationally awarded winners since 2002.
