Ashbourne & The Dales
Pretty market town and gateway to the Peak District. Nearby is lovely Dovedale, immortalised by Izaak Walton in the Compleat Angler. Ashbourne is famous for the 1,000-year-old Shrovetide football match, in which two teams of several thousand compete over two days!
Chatsworth House
‘Queen of the Peak’ and stand-in for Pemberley in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice.
Kedleston Hall
One of the great neo-classical statelies, former home to Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon, “a most superior perzon”.
