Cambridge city secrets

The Backs

The majestic spires of its many colleges and the bustle of academic life are some of the first images that spring to mind when pondering Cambridge. However if you happen to explore further the hallowed halls of these ancient seats of learning, you may well come across the delights of one of its many college choirs.

King's College Choir owes its origins to King Henry VI, who founded the college in 1441, and upholds the fine tradition of British church music. As well as the traditional daily chapel services, the choir also takes part in international broadcasts and a range of contemporary concert performances, having performed with a number of internationally renowned soloists and orchestras.

Trinity Chapel College Choir has an impressive choral tradition. Performing the Choral Evensong and Choral Eucharist during services throughout the week, the choir's repertoire incorporates centuries of tradition from both the Catholic and Protestant faiths.

Emmanuel College Chapel Choir is a mixed-voice choir of around 20 undergraduates from Emmanuel College and other colleges within the University of Cambridge. From Renaissance motets to contemporary music, the choir's services explore the full range of the choral repertoire.
