Wessex Water

A project worthy of note in this area is the ecologically responsible Wessex Water development 3 km southeast of Bath (bus access only to neighbouring university campus). The site's existing trees were all retained during building, while the design actively encourages sustainability.  Successfully balancing the use of glass - to maximise the spectacular views - with solid panels of traditional Bath stone, the building works in harmony with the contours of the naturally sloping site, a design which minimised disruption during construction.

Wherever possible we have tried to choose schemes that are available for the general public to appreciate, that are near to one another, and can be enjoyed on foot. There are other RIBA award-winning buildings at this destination.

www.architecture.com has details of all nationally awarded winners since 2002.
