Fine art auctioneers and valuers since 1826

repare yourself for the tension as you step into the Capes Dunn Edwardian auction house.
Professional antique collectors and nervous amateurs eye each other warily across the room, as they shift in their seats - waiting to bid for the lots they’ve set their hearts on.
Depending which day you go, these can include anything from a bulky Victorian wardrobe to a tattered (but treasured) old football programme. Whatever your taste, though, everyone wants a bargain.
You’ll need to keep a level head, if you’re to find one, though. The Manchester auction house adds on 16%, so what might have seemed reasonable while the adrenalin was pumping through your veins a moment ago, can suddenly become a little more painful now you’ve got your cheque book out.
Still, even with this commission, the lots are significantly cheaper than you’ll get on the high street – and you’ll be going home with something much more authentic. Just remember to bring a hanky, for that fevered brow.
