A bustling haven of top grub
F
ood is serious business in Tavistock: on the second and fourth Saturday of the month, the central Bedford Square jumps into life as market sellers jostle with each other to persuade foodies to try their prized produce.
Not that you’ll need much encouragement. The delicious aromas wafting across the square tend to have you reaching for your purse within minutes.
For all its chaotic hustle and bustle, Tavistock Farmers Market has some pretty rigorous rules, and all produce must be grown or reared by the sellers within a 30-mile radius.
Aside from farmers’ market staples like sausages, jams and pickles, you’ll also find more specialist treats like gluten-free vegetables, goose and even luxury ready meals for the incredibly lazy.
Look out for the comedy names, too. Fancy taking home some raspberry vinegar from Hogs Bottom Garden Delights? Or fresh fish caught by Just For The Halibut?
Yes, we thought you might.
