A charming Swiss Yorkshire union...

B

efore we go any further, we’d just like to clear up one thing: Bettys Tea Rooms weren’t started by a lady called Betty – but a Swiss bloke called Frederick.

In 1919, Frederick Belmont created an unlikely union between Yorkshire and Switzerland, combining his homeland’s delicious chocolate with the hospitality of a traditional Yorkshire brew.

The original Betty's Tea Room in Harrogate (there are now six) retains its early 20th-century charm, with views of the Montpellier Gardens, which you’ll see through the elaborate Edwardian windows.

Let’s face it, though: the real reason you’ll want to come here are the sweet treats – whether that’s Bettys’ famous Grand Cru Chocolate Torte, the Champagne truffles or one of the 300 other cakes, chocolates and breads on offer.

Try not to take too long deciding; there are also 50 different teas and coffees to choose from.
