A much loved family home
C
hristmas at Doddington Hall is a classy affair. This beautiful Elizabethan house is decorated over three floors with flowers dried throughout the year, and fruit and veg from their very own Kitchen Garden.
It’s all the handiwork of Rachel Petheram, the resident florist (sounds glamorous, eh?), who, for past Christmases, has created an Enchanted Forest in the Long Gallery and a Winter Wonderland in the entrance hall.
You can recreate Doddington’s tasteful Christmas at home, too, by taking away one of their trees. The estate grows conifers of all shapes and sizes in a natural woodland, and harvests them daily during December to keep them looking fresh. Of course you want them to look pretty too, so it’s worth popping into Doddington’s Bauble Barn to pick up something dangly and shiny – along with ribbons and fairy lights.
That’s the decorations sorted then – but what about Christmas dinner? Well actually you can get that here, too. Turkey, goose, chicken or even nut roast –whatever your preferenceyou’ll find it all at the local Farm Shop (‘home-grown’ of course).
Guess that’s Christmas pretty much wrapped.
