Quality time on Lake Windemere

W

alking the natural phenomena that is the Lake District costs nothing and is arguably the most romantic place in England. It certainly inspired the Romantic Poets, Wordsworth, Coleridge and Keats.

It’s no hardship to stay in value for money, pretty B&Bs like Kirkwood Guest House in Windermere with its four-poster beds and hearty breakfasts.

During the day take a rowing boat out onto Windermere – England’s longest lake. The peaceful waters are surrounded by spectacular scenery providing an idyllic setting to pop the question. A rowing boat for two costs just over £10 for an hour from the Low Wood Activity Centre. When your hour is up, head across the road to the plush Low Wood Hotel to enjoy lunch overlooking the lake.

Their modern Langdale Lounge & Bar serves a selection of immaculately presented contemporary dishes during the day. Indulge in an Olive Board Platter with a selection of cheeses, meats, breads and olives to share and if you fancy spoiling yourself, wash it down with Cumbria’s famed Sticky Toffee Pudding with butterscotch sauce and clotted cream ice cream.

Take a lakeside walk and then warm up together in a cosy pub with a pint of local ale.
