It's not just about tennis...

W

imbledon Village may be in south London but it certainly has a rural feel. Town really does meet country here. It’s the perfect setting for the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club which hosts the famous Wimbledon tournament every summer. An evening here is a romantic affair with champagne and strawberries in one of the marquees, and if you’re lucky enough, tickets to an evening match until the sun goes down.

After the last ball has been struck, you can head back into the Village for a meal at one of the many restaurants such as Bayley & Sage or Carluccio’s on the High Street, or for a grander occasion, head to Cannizaro House for cocktails on the terrace and a fabulous dinner created by head chef, Christian George. Everything is sourced from British, organic suppliers, so you might be dining on Romney Marsh lamb or St Ives Bay mackerel.

For a real treat, book into one of the 46 rooms, each with their own signature wallpaper. If you tell the hotel it’s a special occasion, you may find rose petals on the bed, where you can snuggle up and watch the late night Wimbledon highlights on your Samsung flatscreen TV.
