Military monsters under one roof
B
ig ones, small ones, fast ones, slow(er) ones…
Yes the tank museum's got them all – and a lot more besides. You can check out nearly 200 military vehicles under one roof, and believe us: these beasts have seen some serious action.
It all starts with the first ever tank, built to end trench warfare in World War I; then there’s the world’s only working Tiger tank – which was used by the Germans in World War II. Our favourite, however, is the mighty Chieftain, which weighs in at over 50 tonnes and can do 20mph – off-road.
As well as genning up on the history of these incredible machines (and their stats, you’ve got to love the stats), you can also check out exhibitions that bring to life the day-to-day routine for the crews who piloted them.
But if you want to see the true power of these mighty machines then get down to the annual Tankfest weekend, held at the end of June. It’ll be the most explosive weekend of your life (yeah, yeah, we know)...
