Baking the old fashioned way
B
aking? If you were going to learn something in Sherwood Forest surely you’d expect archery, or bush skills – perhaps even budgeting (Prince John probably could have done with this one).
But baking? Well, yes. At the School of Artisan Food, situated in an old fire station in the grounds of Welbeck Estate, you can take a short course in anything from butchery to baking, via pickles, chocolate, dairy and even brewery.
And it doesn’t stop there. Passionate about pies? Try Ivan Days’ Historical Pie course. Or how about learning the secrets of game with Venison in a Day – or come over all country with Keeping Hens for Eggs. Whatever your, er, taste, there’s a course to cater (sorry).
And don’t worry if your cooking isn’t quite up to scratch; the farm shop next door sells freshly baked bread and the nearby Lime House Cafe serves up delicious lunches.
Bon appétit.
