Geocaching in the Clent Hills

Discover your new favourite places

W

hat do you get if you mix rambling with the 21st century and a dash of Anneka Rice? The answer is GeoCaching, a day out where one follows map coordinates using a handheld GPS device.

Previous GeoCachers will have pinpointed the sites of interest, be it a Roman Fort, a perfect bridge for playing Pooh Sticks, or simply a spot to capture a classic sunset photo. In the Birmingham area, the Clent Hills are perfect GeoChaching territory, with five spots already mapped out on the trail.

Rising over 1000-feet above sea level, you’ll have permanent views over the stunning Cotswolds’ landscape. Using bridleways and footpaths, follow your GPS device to - amongst others - the Standing Stones, a centuries-old series of obelisks, or head to the picnic-perfect spot known as Robbo’s Pool.

If you haven’t brought a packed lunch, don’t fret - the GeoCaching trail also leads you to a cafe that claims to be home to Birmingham’s best bacon buttie. Though you’ll have to judge for yourself whether their self-awarded accolade is deserving.

And what’s more, if you spot something of interest, you can always log it and upload it to the many GeoCaching websites, helping others find your favourite sites in the UK.
