Canadian canoe trips and sing-songs around the camp fire
I
f you thought camping meant muddy fields, leaky tents and burnt baked beans, how about a weekend in a tipi? Forget sleeping bags, you’ll be curling up in a spacious futon decked out with cosy sheepskin rugs, all arranged around an open fire.
Perfect for an after-dinner sing-song (or rain dance). The best bit, though, is that you get to spend the day paddling along the River Wye in a Canadian canoe. Setting off near Hereford, you glide through the Wye Valley, past green fields, wooded hillsides and idyllic pubs; just stop and sip wherever you fancy.
There aren’t any grizzly bears out here, but keep your eyes and ears peeled for kingfishers, herons, otters – and a lot of peace and quiet.
First-timers needn’t worry; the paddling is downstream (easy-peasy), and the rather friendly Tipi Adventure staff take your luggage straight to the campsite – so even if you get a bit damp, your pyjamas won’t.
