You, your friends and plenty of wildlife

angle a line over the side, pop open a bottle of chilled vino and wait for dinner to swim past. Book yourself and a group of mates into these two houseboats in Devon, and this is about as hectic as life gets.
The best bit about it (in our opinion) is that you don’t even have to worry about steering, negotiating locks or any of that other stuff that normally comes with staying on a narrowboat. They’re permanently moored in a 35-acre nature reserve, where it’s just you, your best friends – and a lot of wildlife.
Each boat sleeps four to six people in en suite cabins, with barbecue-cum-picnic areas nearby (provided you catch something of course). Should you fail to land a bite, though, you could always whip up something tasty in the galley, then sit back outside and watch the sun turn the sky all kinds of pink as it sinks below the horizon.
Next day, you could always hit the beach (20 minutes’ drive away), or head to the nearby villages of Appledore and Okehamptonfor a nose around.
