A glamping oasis in Suffolk
I
f the thought of camping conjures up images of screaming kids, collapsing tents and attempts at getting a match to the gas before the wind blows it out, then relax, have a cup of tea, and check out Alde Garden. It is perhaps the epitome of the ‘Glamping’ movement, where camping meets glamour.
Alde Garden owners Marie and Mark have created an oasis of camping calm in the beautiful, serene Suffolk countryside, within strolling distance of the castle at Framlingham, the beaches of Aldeburgh and the rutting stags of Minsmere nature reserve.
How? Well the campsite itself is home to a diverse range of housing, from Mongolian-style yurts, a native American-style tipi, a traditional carved wooden gypsy caravan and an exposed-beam holiday cottage, each with its own wood burner.
Tarzans can cool down or wash in the on site jungle shower, while Janes might prefer the heated, solar showers. After a hard day’s rambling, compare notes and swap marshmallows over at the communal fire area, lit by solar fairy lights.
The tranquility after 10pm rule is perfect for those who wish to end the day with a mug of cocoa and a good book illuminated by the flickering of a real fire.
And not a tent peg, tarpaulin sheet or mud-splattered pack of Jammy Dodgers in sight.
