It has to be Porthcurno beach in Cornwall, a hidden cove, with clear water. In the summer you can see basking sharks, seals and dolphins...Sick

I would have to say that my favourite beach is Cambersands. It's very peaceful and never too busy. Another major bonus for this beach that is unlike Brighton its a sandy beach. To me there is nothing worse than a beach with pebbles. Although, I must say it could do with a nice restaurant over looking it.

Well it depends on the type of beach your after!
Personally I like sand, no reefs and a nice break :)
As such I'm really looking forward to Europe 's first artificial surf reef at Boscombe in Bournemouth!!!
Should be completed by October 2008 and then will offer some of Europe's finest surfing!
Check Bournemouth Surfing if your interested in surfing down there - I'm sure you'll be seeing me there this Summer!

I know the Lake District is renowned for its amazing lakes but St Bees in the Lake District is absolutely beautiful if you fancy a day at the beach. Very peaceful and not too busy and there is a great seaside cafe that serves gorgeous hot chocolate and homemade cakes. Depending on how much cake you have eaten Wainwrights coast to coast walk begins at St Bees too!

Cambersands is great! We drove from London for a day out last summer, first to Rye and then we went to Cambersands. Brilliant beach, it feels very Mediterranean but also very English.

Woolacombe Bay has a great beach but, most of all, I like the coastline along the north-east. The beaches there are superb - the only downside is that there's rarely the weather to match.

Here are some pictures I took there last year when I was over for the Great North Run...

There's vast expanses of sand around Bamburgh Castle and usually very few people around.

Can anyone recommend places to stay around Bamburgh Castle. I was hoping to take my husband for his birthday in November - which probably isn't the best time to go weather wise but unfortunately I can't change his birthday it is the same time every year! Any advice would be appriciated. Thanks.

Bamburgh Castle looks stunning. Yet another location I had no idea about. Sounds corny, but I really am learning something new from the learned people here everytime I log on!

It's also my birthday in November Lola. Can you take me with you!? What a lovely thought to take your husband somewhere to celebrate.

I had a look via the Bamburgh Castle site and found a few places they have listed locally to stay and that look very inviting.

There's one or two self-catering properties on The Wynding that I've stayed at before. They've been OK and offer fairly immediate views of the castle.

More recently we've stayed in Seahouses, not far from Bamburgh, with a self-catering company called Northumberland Coastal Retreats. They offer good quality accommodation and have a number of places dotted around the area, catering for different sized parties.

There's a reasonably nice pub/hotel in Bamburgh that seemed to be OK, but I've never seen the rooms. From memory, I think it was called The Victoria.

Hi SummerSensation - I think you are absolutely right we do have many beautiful beaches. Weymouth is great. I also love the pebble beach at the Seven Sisters down in Sussex.
