Rye is a great place to visit at anytime of year, a small town of around 5,500 residents,
Rye's history can be traced back to before the Norman Conquest, Our Parish church is over 900 years old, we still have the body of John Breeds in the cage he was placed in after he was hung in 1742 for murder. On a lighter note Rye was the former home of the Archbishop of Canterbury and prolific writer EF Benson (1883-1896) he ended up living at Lamb House (which is open to the public) he is perhaps best known today for his delightful series of books featuring Emmeline Lucas (Lucia) and her social rival, Elizabeth Mapp. Published in the 1930's,
If that’s not enough then wait until you see Saltcote Place, (originally built in 1903 for the Hennessy (Cognac) family as a wedding present and designed by the influential architect Sir Reginald Blomfield responsible for the Ypres war memorial, Oxford street and other remarkable structures. The Hennessy’s lived here until 1935 when the property first becoming a school after Beulah House High was moved from London to Rye due to the impending threat of WWII - remaining here for only two years and relocating to Cornwall.

Rye is about an hour south of London by train, and can be less by car, only 20 minutes from Ashford and the Eurotunnel you can have breakfast in france and be back for a meal in one of our many great restaurants.
From Rye you can travel to Battle (1066) and see the Abbey, the short drive or excellent train service will take less than 30 minutes.
