Hi my name is Keith and England is my passion. I was born in Portsmouth but taken away at a young age to the United States by my parents. I have lived in the US for most of my life but return to my homeland at least once a year. I always say that England is my first love and live each day looking forward to my next visit home. I am waiting for the right opportunity to move back home to my beloved country.

Hi, my name is Kate. I am 23 yrs old and living in Australia. I will be moving to England next year on a working holiday visa so have lots to plan! I haven't picked a location in England to move to yet so if you know the best spots I'd love to hear about them. Any help would be great!

Hi Kate Welcome to the forum. What sort of areas are you interested in? Are you hoping to get a job in a particular area? If you have then maybe you could start looking around that particular area. There are so many great places to live! Good luck

I was thinking of throwing a dart at a map of England and living where the dart landed. But seriously, I am very fond of the Sussex area but would settle for anywhere in England. My current company has an office in Nottingham so that is also a possibility if I can get a transfer. I'm very flexible, as long as it's in England.

Hi Keith. The dart idea may work if you have a large map! I actually come from Sussex and would highly recommend it as a great place to live. You have the best of the countryside and a great coastline too... Nottingham I have heard is a great city too. You may be spolit for choice!

Hi Keith. Before you make any rash or random decisions you need to check up (in no particular order) on a few things: Likelihood of flooding, the unemployment statistics, the cost of living in the area, crime, the likelihood of there being a place of work applicable to your skills, the transport availability (as daft as it looks, a major river can cut a place in half), a good road network which couples your area of choice to other nearby places should the work in your town/city dry up, training facilities, higher education, broadband connection, nearness of services (police, fire, ambulance), if you live in the west and travel to and from the north, south or east to work, in one of those directions you will spend with the sun in your face. If you live in a hilly district you will probably have problems with travel in winter. If you live close to an industrial area make sure it's out of the prevailing wind (west) or you'll spend your life breathing the fumes in. Watch out for areas with large schools, you could get caught up in school runs on your way to work. If you can, live in an area well away from kids. If it's not the kids screaming, it's the parents. Best of luck. Dave http://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/4330/all

Crikey... ...no wonder no-one's buying any houses at the moment. It's a bit of a minefield isn't it!
