Please correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I can tell, there have been 65 ‘active’ members (of which I am 1) on the forum out of a possible 29,156 and that these 65 members have posted 602 messages. Am I correct? If I am correct, how can others be encouraged to join in more? Any suggestions, anyone?

When I first looked at this site, I made a beeline for the forum button, but couldn’t find it at the top of the page where it usually is in other sites. I quickly scrolled to the bottom of the page where some sites also put it. No, not there. I scrolled to the top again thinking I’d missed it, but no. After a couple of minutes I was about to give up and then spotted it midway down. It’s obvious when you know where it is, but not so when you don’t. I wondered if this could have an impact on the forum.

Another thing that I've noticed is that in 12hrs there hasn't been a response to anyone by anyone (except me) - not even a mod. Not very encouraging to new members. I hope this picks up, I'm beginning to feel very alone out here.

Hi escafeld - you are not alone. I've been having a few problems getting in today so that could be why its been a bit quiet. I usually visit the forum a couple of times a week to see what's happening and something I have noticed is they've made it a bit easier for people to register recently. Its a fairly new and small community but hopefully we'll have some more company out there soon Anxious

Maybe they should make it so you can see the forum from any page in the site as I only saw it when I went to the homepage...

Hello escafeld and chorth. Thanks for your feedback. We are a new forum and this is really useful for us. The vast majority of our registered members signed up prior to the forum being on the site, which explains the disparity between the number of registered members and forum users. We are indeed a relatively small community and have acquired some new members since making the registration more clear on the forum recently.
Chorth - now that it's easier for visitors on the forum to register, I've discussed the need to promote the forum more widely on the site with our editorial team, so we should be seeing lots of new links and buttons to the forum very soon.
Thanks again for your feedback and please keep it coming if you have any other ideas.

Hi Moderator, thanks for a reply. I hope you don't mind, but I've asked a few more questions. I didn't know the forum was a new concept for the site, it explains the low numbers. I do hope that can be built upon.

I was "encouraged" to join here by a company working on behalf of enjoyEngland who contacted me via one of my blogs. This was back in February 2008 and I was notified that I was invited to a competition open to fewer than 100 people that required my participation here. I began getting involved, posting regularly, and it soon became evident that this wasn't properly organised. I could see that I was one of few participants in the competition (perhaps the only participant) and when I later made enquiries about the winner, I was simply told:

Quote:
We do not have a deadline so far, but I will let you know. Don¹t worry,
the prize will be given away ;) I¹ve seen you posted very interesting
comments!

That was back in February and it's now June 2008, and I was never notified, and have serious doubts as to whether the £50 prize was ever awarded.

I would welcome EE's comments on this.

Hello altyfc.

The aim of the competition was to attract users to our then newly launched forum. There was no closing date but you left us some really good comments and somebody will be contacting you later today with an update.

Thanks for getting back to us.

Thank you - I'll wait and see what that update says, before commenting further.

Thank you. I got the email and faith is duly resorted. ;) I'll be returning a bit more often than I have been from now on.

Incidentally, I work quite extensively in the online travel arena - my company runs around 200+ travel sites, about 20 of which (and the most successful/largest of which) cater specifically for the UK. We've been working in this field since late 1993 when the WWW started. If you'd be interested in exploring further ideas for advertising the forums (or promoting other aspects of EE for that matter), then please do not hesitate to get in touch. We get good traffic and already generate significant numbers of bookings for the likes of Travelodge, Superbreak, Active, Laterooms, etc. I am also admin on a worldwide travel forum with over 125,000 (around 10,000 of which are in a dedicated UK forum). Constandina has my 'true' email address should you need it - the one I use for this forum is a Hotmail address that I really just use for forum posting and newsletter subscriptions.

Thanks again.
