I went to the cheese rolling in Gloucestershire for the first time last year - and have since realised the county is probably home to the most unbelievable number of crazy festivals in the UK. Check our the cheese rolling, bourton river football, the cotswold olympicks [sic!] and a list of gloucestershire events. I think there's a tar festival in cornwall, and bog snorkelling somewhere - but I can't think of anywhere that tops all of this? Proudly from The Shire!

I was reading this mornings metro which had a feature about the Cotswold Olimpick Games. From what I understand it is a shin-kicking contest. My question therefore is why would anyone want to take part???? Even if you can stuff your wellington boots with straw to minimise the impact - it still hearts. Ouch, Ouch

That sounds like too much hard work as far as I'm concerned. Running up a steep ‘1 in 4’ hill for 240 yards in the town with either a 60lb or 35lb woolsack on your back. I bet it was a great day out though - in my case it would definately be as a spectator!!
