This weekend I am planning to go to the cinema and see the "Other Boleyn Girl" based on Philippa Gregory's novel, which was filmed in Kent at Penhurst Place, Knole, Dover Castle and Hever Castle the real life childhood home of the Boleyn sisters.
Has anyone ever visited these places or know of any other places in England which have been used as a back drop to a film or inspired a film?

They filmed one of the Harry Potter films where I live in Palmers Green, North London. They were there for about 5 days, but when we watched the film it was only on the screen for about 2 seconds. It really makes you think about the budgets they must have to make these films

I think I remember that Harry Potter film being filmed in Palmers Green. I was living on Green Lanes at the time and there was a bus scene filmed along there. Can't remember which Potter film though.

Among the film locations worth visiting are:
Upper Arley (anything with steam trains in it - the Robert Powell version of the Thirty Nine Steps is an example.) Cracking little place, films or not.
Carnforth station, Lancashire (train scenes in Brief Encounter).
Camberwell New Cemetery (Entertaining Mr. Sloane, though much dilapidated since then -compare it with the film).
Shaftesbury, Dorset (not a film, but the famous Hovis ad of the two people walking up a cobbled street with a brass band playing "Going Home" in the background - there is a giant Hovis at the top of that street now).
Southall Park (where they play football in Bend it Like Beckham).

Hi RedApples25 I've caught this too late for your weekend, but this is an extensive list and comes complete with images. Hope you find it useful for a later date. http://www.geograph.org.uk/discuss/index.php?&action=vthread&forum=6&topic=3949Dave http://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/4330/all
